This is one way to slowly prepare the sale of your home. Even if you are not selling, it is still a good practice to do on a periodic basis. Have more with less! The thought of the task is daunting and overwhelming. You think of the amount of clothing spent, the unworn clothing with tags when you reach your ideal weight, the seasonal items which haven’t been used in a while. We all go through it. It is best to start small and clear out the floor of the closet, then you get energized and more momentum. Go with that energy! After the floor, then do the shelves on top. Then do the hanging rods.
What I usually do is take each item out of the closet and start three piles. One pile is for donations, the other pile is to keep, the third pile is for keep and repair. As you take each item out of the closet to sort, you will notice an instant feeling of — (1) Yes, give it away! or (2) No, I want to keep this or a (3) Mixed feeling. Put the first feeling in the “Donate” pile, and the last two feelings in the “Keep” pile. Oh how good it feels to know that you have cleared out items to let new items your closet!
Here are places that you can donate to:
OC Goodwill Boutique & Donation Center 502 E First St, Tustin, CA 92780 – http://www.ocgoodwill.org/stores/tustin/e-first-st. This is a great place for an easy drop-off. They also give you a donation receipt for tax documentation.
Vietnam Veterans of America – https://vva.org/donate/. This is better because you can put your items in a box or bag, and you can schedule a pick up online.
Happy Clearing!
